The play and charge kit is a rechargeable battery that you plug into the back of the xbox 360 pad instead of the pack that uses AA batteries. There is a slot on the top of the pad where you insert the lead (you get with the play and charge kit)and the other end into the USB port in your Xbox 360 to charge your pad, while playing the game. The life of the battery depends on how much charge is in the Battery pack.
