The Xbox 360 Dashboard is - if no game disc is in the machine, or set as default start - the opening system menus for the Xbox 360 console. It contains Five "blades" on which various options are found: Xbox Live Marketplace (Changes automatically by the xbox team); Xbox Live (default orange); Games (default green); Media (default blue); and System (default purple). A DirecTV blade is in the works. The new blade and some other new features will be enabled in the May 7th Spring Dashboard Update free of charge to all Xbox Live members.

Xbox Live Marketplace
Available May 7th via Xbox Live update, only available to online users. This new blade will be home to the Xbox Live Marketplace, the equivilent of an online 'shop' where gamers can download many things such as games, video's, demo' etc. This new Blade is designed to simplify the users experience.

- This feature will be part of the dashboard update (May 7th 2007) and will allow xbox live users to integrate their MSN Messenger- - contacts onto their Xbox Live friends list and also text chat with up to 6 friends on messenger. - A keybpard will be released in the summer months to enhance this feature.

- Fully available in the U.S only, downloadable video, either films, tv series, trailers etc in Full HD (480i,720p) - Sometimes free, often charged using Microsoft Points. (online currency).

- With the May 7th update users will be able to set their console to 'quiet download' this will enable them to continue downloading demo's at low power and also low noise. - This option powers down the whole console other than the HDD and the Xbox Live connection.
