Summary
Prototype is a sandbox game set in a wartorn New York City. You play as Alex Mercer, who has no memory of his past. Alex has the ability to alter his DNA. By doing this Alex can absorb members of the public, military personal or other puplic figures. By absorbing them Alex can then transform into them, and then use his disguises to walk freely into otherwise off limits areas. Alex will also have to comsume key personal to advance the story, and help to regain his memory. Alex has various allies in the city, as in his sister, Dana Mercer, a journalist, who has access to military knowledge, (as only a journalist does) and helps Alex find his military targets. Dana see's Alex as a tortured sibling in help. Which, in a sense, he is. Though when choosing between the two of them, Alex or his target, I'm sure I'd pick the target as the more tortured. His other known ally is Dr. Ragland. Ragland is a scientist at a local college, and wants to find a cure for the virus that gave Alex his powers. As such, Ragland will help Alex find his infected targets. Alex also has a lesser known brother, Brian Mercer, who hasn't amounted to much. Alex, prior to the Penn Station incident, was a scientist himself at a company known as Gentek.
Gameplay
Alex is able to fight using basic combo. He has a basic attack and a heavy attack, the longer the buttons are held down the more the ratio of the attack shifts from speed to power. You are also able to grab enemies and thow them in the air. Alec can also mold his DNA in to deadly weapons. He can convert his fists in boulders, grow wolverine like claws and transform his arm into alarge deadly blade. Alex can also take advantage of three special attacks: He can shoot tentacles directly in front of himself to clear a path, another has tentacles coming from Alex's torso and dealing damage to those around him while also clearing the area. Probley the most graphic of the three happens when Alex pounds the ground, verticle spikes then come out of the ground around Alex and impale any near by enemies. More shapeshifting moves of his are his Whipfist, which turns his arm into a tentacle that can stretch up to twenty feet and latch onto things and people. He also has the Musclemass move, which encases his forearms in a metal like sheath, also vastly increasing his melee damage. He can encase his entire body in armor, which lessens damage significantly, but doesn't fully block it. He can turn his arm into a shield as well, allowing all damage from that direction to be blocked, but the shield shatters after absorbing too much damage. He can also shift his senses, allowing him to see in infared, when it's too dark to see normally, and sense other infected in the area. As the virus grows within them, they mutate more and more. Using this infected vision, Alex can see what most others could not; whether or not an infected is disguised, or a human who's virus has yet to be activated fully. But Alex isn't limited to combative techniques in his shapeshifting. He can consume anyone at anytime, gaining there memories, form, and abilities. Thus, consuming a helicopter pilot grants you the ability to pilot a helicopter. Same for a tank. Also, Alex can turn into them at will. Alex has five basic forms; His..umm... well not normal persay, but his 'special' Alex form. He also has his Civilian form. This is the most widely varied of all the forms, as anyone in New York can be subject to it. The third is his Military form, which is a standard soldier. It grants the Patsy move once unlocked, which means that any soldier can be pointed at and accused of being the real Alex Mercer, and his fellow soldiers will gun that soldier down in confusion and fear, and the ability to walk into a military base unnoticed. The fourth is his Commander form. This is very specific, as only commanders of bases can work for this one. Meaning that while there may be twenty soldiers in a base, there will always be only one commander. The commander grants the Air Strike, which can be directed at any building for a limited number of times. He can also commandeer any military vehicle, ordering the soldier to surrender it. Also has the patsy technique. His final form is the Blackwatch form. This turns him into the latest Blackwatch soldier he's consumed. Blackwatch soldiers also have access to the Patsy move, and can also call in an airstrike. Their only other known advantage is that they can enter both Blackwatch Bases and Blackwatch controlled sectors of the city unnoticed. All these moves grant Alex nearly infinite possibilities. Well, not infinite. But over 750 combinations for all these moves into combos. Not only that, but any of the moves can be combined. So Alex can use his armor and claws at the same time. One offensive, one defensive, and one sensory can be picked at any time. Combined together, the player can adapt and evolve Alex to any situation that presents itself.
