Summary
Originally started as a hidden minigame in Project Gotham Racing 2 by the developers at Bizarre Creations, Geometry Wars turned so popular they decided to create a completely updated stand-alone version for Xbox Live Arcade. You use the left analog stick on your Xbox 360 controller to fly your ship around the area, and the right analog stick to fire a bullet in any 360 degree angle. Avoid the spawning enemies, and shoot them down for points. You can also pull either trigger to fire a smart bomb, which decimates all bad guys on the screen.
A Time Attack version of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is included as part of Project Gotham Racing 3 on the Xbox 360, but this time around it's been super charged with high definition graphics, high-quality digital sound, new bad guys, new special effects, and a new scrolling play area. The full version of Retro Evolved is also available to download over Xbox Live Arcade, so you can play on your Xbox 360 any time!
Trivia
Whereas the original game was invented as a means to test some joystick code by Bizarre developer Stephen Cakebread, this time they apparently went for testing on how to develop games for the triple-core CPU in the Xbox 360. The first core runs the game itself and the particle subsystem, the second core manages the 60,000 point gravity grid used as background, and the third core is in charge of the audio rendering.
